New "secret weapon" of the Syrian army?

32
Questions that ask inquisitive readers, sometimes the most unexpected. Fortunately, the Internet today allows you to see the most amazing things about military subjects. This question was sent to us by one of our regular readers. Video Interview What is this weapon?

Honestly, the question took me by surprise. Not by the fact that this unknown weapon exists. About this below. To be honest, the surprise was precisely the return, the cyclical, if you like, life of the weapon.

What you saw on the presented video, in fact, has already been more than a century history. Yes, more than 100 years ago such a weapon appeared in the armies of most of the warring countries. But let's start from the stove.

The appearance of hand grenades, "pocket artillery" in the conditions of the First World War, when the armies "dug" in the ground and fought a positional war, led to the realization of the need to increase the range of such a grenade. There were few people who could throw hand grenades at decent distances. Most were limited to throw range in 10-20 meters. And this is clearly not enough. Especially for fragmentation defensive grenades.

Soldier ingenuity, especially in war, often leads to the appearance of a completely incredible weapon. And what was in service with the soldier then? Rifle and grenade. And they needed to be somehow united. Just what kind of "grenade launchers" was not at that cruel time, from large "slingshots" to catapults, similar to ancient Greek. However, all these grenade launchers were too demanding on the conditions of use. And the distances that catapults threw grenades were not particularly necessary for soldiers.

The trenches of the opposing sides were literally a few dozen meters from each other. What was needed was soldiers, not very long-range, but simple solutions. And they were found. The so-called rifle grenades were invented.

New "secret weapon" of the Syrian army?

The first "rifle grenades" were nothing more than the famous "lemon" F-1 with a pin attached to the bottom. The thickness of the pin was chosen as close as possible to the caliber of the rifle. And the shot technology was simple. The pin was inserted into the rifle barrel. The weapon was set at the required angle, depending on the firing range. And then fired a shot. For the shot used blank cartridges.

The production of such grenades was pure amateur. In battalions and regiments, right on the front line, workshops made such items. However, it turned out that the friction of iron against iron quickly leads to the failure of the rifle barrel. After firing rifle grenades, the weapon could no longer be used for its intended purpose.

But what you saw in the first case on the video, has already been produced by industry. And the first to think of the British. More precisely, the British were the first to do the same as the Syrians in the above video.

They remembered the already forgotten flint mortars that were once used. Specially designed nozzle in the form of mortars mounted on the barrel of a rifle. And then it happened exactly what you saw. Grenade fit into mortar. The lever was placed in a special slot. And the safety ring was removed manually. Shot by the blank cartridge, and the grenade flies for a considerable distance.

The second system, which was used by the Syrian fighter, is already related to our homeland. This product very much resembles the once famous Dyakonov grenade launcher, the Soviet 30 weapons.

In the video you can see that a special grenade is used for the shot. With ready-made rifling. This allows for more accurate shooting. Although, perhaps this is a modification of the German Gewehrgranatgerät.

For the Russian army, the history of rifle grenades ended in the post-war period. And they finally disappeared in the early 60-s. It was then that the idea of RPGs and grenade launchers prevailed. But in the armies of other countries the idea of using rifle grenades is alive. Moreover, if you look closely at some samples of weapons, you will clearly see that they were made precisely for the possible use of rifle grenades. The presence of a long flame arrester is one of these indicators.

Such weapons perfectly use grenades “worn” over the barrel. Today rifle grenades are a special type of weapon that has not yet fully revealed its capabilities. What you saw in the video is the past. Rods, mortars on the barrel and other devices disappeared from the armies of the world. Modern-day rifle grenades are ammunition mounted on a barrel or flame arrester.

Moreover, these grenades have their own system of aiming. They do not use the existing one, but have a sight on their own body. Further, most modern grenades have either a bullet catcher or a through channel for the passage of a bullet. And this means the possibility of firing live ammunition. Many of the readers may have seen shots from hand grenade launchers with smoke grenades. Remember the impact of such weapons. So, a through hole reduces returns at times.

Well, and the last. I just can't get past the weapons of our best "friends." It was in the USA that an interesting type of grenade was invented. More precisely, they invented a device that allows using any hand grenade for a shot. The idea is implemented in a special universal adapter M1A2. Instead, the warhead are three legs. It is in these legs that the grenade is clamped. After hitting the grenade at the target, when they hit the paws, they unclench. At the same time, a security check is pulled out of the grenade. Then everything is as usual. So, alas, the Syrian army does not use secret weapons, but obsolete and already forgotten in modern armies of the world.

And the barrel does not blow away from regular use?

      Barrel grenades, srachegenerating thing.
On the one hand, as a substitute for grenade launcher, while reducing the weight of the grenade.
On the other hand, do not shoot while wearing a grenade.

A long time ago, I saw a video about the attack of partisans on a truck with a regular army somewhere in Africa.
The soldiers sitting in the back, all fnl trunks, wore grenades.
The first thing they did, jumping out of the truck, fired grenades towards the enemy.

As a child, I heard from old people about such "grenade launchers". Someone praised it very much, and some doubted that such was the case. From this I conclude that such "grenade launchers" were not widely used in the army.

in ours - no. Although I saw a soldier with a Dyakonov grenade launcher a couple of times in the frames of the 41st year, but, as I understand it, the existing pre-war samples were quickly lost. The Germans used similar grenade launchers (with a muzzle attachment) throughout the war.

In ours, yes, but in the Japanese and German armies there were quite a lot of these grenade launchers.

There were videos about the stay of our officers and soldiers in Angola, and on some frames they probably had Yugoslav STANDS in their hands with grenades on the barrel.

We had a similar thing. Worn on the barrel of the M-16. Only
needed a special nozzle ("rose") behind the flame arrester.

The main problem: from excitement in the heat of battle (or in the dark) do not plant
her in ... a live cartridge instead of a blank! Then Khan ... sad

A barrel rifle grenade with a bullet channel that allows the use of live ammunition is a thing.

Its explosive charge is several times higher than the charge of a grenade fired from a grenade launcher, and allows you to save the machine / assault rifle from the constant parasitic weight of the grenade launcher. In this case, the sights are reduced to an additional tilt bar on the forend.

And a ton of iron on the grenade itself does not dozens of times compensate for the weight of the miniature grenade launcher ... And the range (as well as the multiplicity of explosives) is hardly significant ..

still not a ton. do not exaggerate. several tens of grams. comparable range. and according to the weight of centuries ... there is a large spread. Depends on the purpose of the grenade. there are equals to the grenade and there are many times stronger. cumulative will not yield RPG-18. how to watch. well, and who is used to what.

agree the rifle grenade is larger and heavier. but not a ton? the advantage of shrapnel may not be too great when compared with FOG, but for cumulative ones it is already quite significant. although IMHO a special grenade launcher like the "Boer" about which they wrote here is still more effective, but crawling from dozens of shots to the "Boer" or RPG-18 is also not easy. or am I wrong?

There are various superbarrel grenades, the most advanced of them - with a central bullet-collecting channel, which also receives torque from a bullet.

In this case, the grenade in flight is stabilized by rotation and does not need plumage, which reduces the weight of the barreled grenade to the level of a hand grenade with equal charge and an offensive fragmentation shirt.

Those. the grenade becomes universal and can be used both by manual throwing at a range of up to 40 meters, and by shooting from a machine / rifle at a range of up to 150 meters. By combining two functions in one product, the infantry ammunition weight is reduced or the number of universal grenades in the ammunition is increased with the same weight.

the article is interesting but the author is unfortunately not too familiar with the question. He calls the rifle grenades of the First World War homemade, while they were developed and produced at factories. all tests and adoption took place officially. there were quite a few and very diverse projects. they often had characteristics that would still look good today. for example, the aforementioned Dyakonov grenade had a standard remote fuse with a change in the detonation distance, which increased its effectiveness due to detonation in the air. before the war, it was removed from service, and after 1945, what is interesting, this decision was revised. such grenades were often unified with hand grenades and mines for "stretch marks". they seemed to be applied quite successfully both against the infantry and along the embrasures of the firing points of which the mortars, their main competitors could not. during the Second World War, cumulative ammunition of this type appeared. and then they did not forget about them. rifle grenades are in service with most armies in the world. For the sake of objectivity, I must say there were shortcomings and serious shortcomings. when firing with ramrod grenades, the pressure in the barrel due to the weight of the grenade went beyond the calculated one. simply "inflated" the trunk. capital mortars in this regard were more reliable, but they also gave a strong recoil when fired, because of which the charter prescribed firing with the butt resting on the ground. but even so, the rifle had to be periodically inspected. the recoil loosened the mounts.

Strongly ... distorted))) Dyakov's grenade launcher is not a weapon of the First World War .. This is already a Soviet weapon ... The article specifically talks about the first, "tailed" grenades ... you can name the army in which industrial grenades were used during the First World War such a design? ..))))

On March 8, 1916, the staff captain of the 37th Yekaterinburg Regiment, M. G. Dyakonov, who had previously been trained at the Military Automobile School, was seconded to the gun range of the Officers Rifle School "to demonstrate his inventions." Dyakonov created a gun grenade, which was fired from the barrel of the rifled mortar of his design.
taken from wikipedia. are caudate grenades ramrods? then write the list 1) France 2) Great Britain 3) Russia 4) Austria ramrod grenades were not in service for long. but there were in all major warring countries in Russia the Zelinsky grenade in Britain the Mills grenade. as already written there were a lot of options, these are the first ones that were remembered. There should be a lot of materials on this on the Internet, see for yourself if you do not believe it.

I won’t even open it. Read when the industrial production of the Dykonovsky grenade launcher was launched. By the way, ramrod grenades also appeared a little later. The first ones were with just metal pins. ramrods appeared after they had decided on the wear of the barrel. Then they began to use the trophy ... Then the ramrod went into business

what you call a pin is a ramrod. such grenades appeared in 1915. in Russia, these are grenades of Zelensky and Mgebrov. as for the Dyakonov grenade launcher, look again when it was developed. and he had competitors. grenades of that period are not so known as rifles, and their reliability was clearly insufficient. studied on them. but this does not mean that they were not there.

You are wrong ... It is after the opening of the legs that the check is removed. The version that you wrote about was used in the "martyrs". Even in those martyrs that we saw in the first comment, exactly the same principle is used as in "American women". Before the shot is fired, the check is in a fixed position.

The modern use of THIS, and even more so the introduction of how some warriors are here, is for scumbags! It’s just that the history of these distortions was in the era before the appearance of mass mortars. So they just removed all these problems. Moreover, if we consider all cases of the use of such "nozzles", then we get a negligible advantage obtained. And now recall that there are mortars, albeit small 82, as well as grenade launchers, by the way, do not forget about the AGS. Then it turns out that the Normal Army has a sufficiently large amount of funds for "filling up" the enemy with grenades and mines in the near and medium combat distance! At the same time, there is no need to put grenade launchers on each machine, as some moan here "so as not to carry too much", because one hell is far from being all professionals in their use. It’s not for you to harass hundreds of cartridges into “milk”; it’s more difficult here. Therefore, one grenade launcher for 3-5 is more than enough.
And most importantly - the grenade launcher is a "holiday that is always with you" !! There is no need to spend time in battle on nozzles or changing combat to idle.
And that the grenade launcher is heavy, you know who its awesome use was - Motorola. Yes, yes this non-sticky man, "meter with a cap" loved and knew how to throw very well. And after that you say that "overweight", but fear God, war is not for the squelch at all.
