Podolsk city council of the Odessa region decided to reburial the remains of the Soviet commander Grigory Kotovsky at the city cemetery number 1, reports Ukrinfrom.
“Kotovsky’s remains, which still housed in the so-called crypt-tomb in Podolsk, will be reburied at the city cemetery No. XXUMX. Before performing the ritual procedure, the City Council, in accordance with the requirements of the law on decommunization, will form a coordinating council for managing the culture of the City Council, determine the place of reburial and inform the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine in advance about the conclusions and decisions on this matter. ”
quotes the agency of the head of the city council Elena Chubinu.
Recall that after the death of Kotovsky in 1925 g, it was decided to embalm his body and place it in a specially constructed mausoleum. The museum existed until August 1941. The invaders who entered the city destroyed the sarcophagus and carried the remains of the legendary commander out of it. However, local railway workers dug up the body and hid it before the arrival of the Soviet troops. The mausoleum was completely restored in 1965.
