At the recent international military-technical forum "Army-2016" domestic defense industry enterprises have demonstrated a large number of the latest developments in various fields. In particular, the sector of remotely controlled combat modules did not remain without the attention of enterprises. Several organizations presented a number of both already known and completely new systems of this class. One of the new projects, first presented at the recent exhibition, was developed by the designers of the Petrel Research Institute.

One of the exhibition samples in the exposition of the Petrel Research Institute, part of the Uralvagonzavod Corporation, was a promising combat module with cannon and machine gun weapons. This new system is proposed to equip various existing and future models of armored vehicles. The design uses some relatively new ideas that were not widely used before. Interestingly, the name of the promising development has not yet been announced. At the moment, it is known by the bulky, but revealing the essence of the project designation "30-mm remotely controlled combat module."

The basis of the new project is the need to upgrade the armament weapons complex using the latest ideas and developments. So, one of the main innovations of the project, which is able to significantly simplify the use of the module, is to place all the necessary units, including boxes for ammunition, outside the armored base of the base machine. Despite this, the module receives a full set of necessary equipment and weapons that can provide the required technical and combat characteristics. To demonstrate the original layout, the combat module was placed on a tripod stand during the exhibition, which further emphasized the absence of units installed below the shoulder strap.

In accordance with the new project “30-mm remotely controlled combat module,” the base of the module, made in the form of a cylinder of small height, should be located directly on the seat of the roof of the armored vehicle. It must contain horizontal guidance actuators that ensure the entire structure rotates around a vertical axis. On a cylindrical base it is proposed to mount a larger, complex case. For proper distribution of the loads on the support, the body and the base are additionally connected by several small struts.

The housing of the combat module received a recognizable shape, formed by a large number of straight panels. The front part has an upper sheet placed at an angle, and is also equipped with a small vertical central sheet and a lower part installed with a backward inclination. There are small zygomatic sheets covering the junction of the forehead and sides. To accommodate the gun mount, the frontal part of the hull is divided into two side units, between which there is a swinging system.

The hull sides have a complex shape formed by vertical upper and inclined lower sheets. Towards the stern of the module, the beads diverge. In this case, the right side of the product consists of only two sheets, while the left one has a curved shape: its front part is located parallel to the longitudinal axis, which is necessary for the installation of a machine gun. Behind the rocking machine-gun cover there is provided an armor plate of relatively short length at an angle to the axis. The hull feed also consists of several parts, which together form an angular design that is curved back. The roof of the combat module is made of one sheet mounted horizontally on the sides. It should be noted that when changing the size and shape of side and stern parts, the total height of the hull does not change along its entire length.

The upper front parts of the body are given under the placement of some devices. So, on their outer parts there are two large hatches for access to the internal volume of the module. Apparently, with their help, it is proposed to place ribbons with ammunition in the module box. The central parts of the frontal sheets are given for the installation of two blocks of smoke grenade launchers. On each "half" of the frontal part of the body is placed three such devices. Directly between the grenade launchers there is a niche necessary for the withdrawal of a gun mount. On the starboard side, in its front part, there is another hatch for access inside the hull. Symmetrically to him on the left side of the mounting provided for swinging machine gun installation.

In the central part of the module is mounted a gun mount with vertical guidance drives. The most noticeable and curious feature of this product is the cover covering part of the gun. This device has a complex shape with a large number of edges, allowing you to cover all the necessary parts of the gun, as well as ensuring the withdrawal of spent cartridges. For the release of the latter on the side surface of the casing, a hole is provided with internal guides. On the back of the casing is mounted opto-electronic equipment, placed in a box-shaped protective housing. Due to the tight coupling of the two housings, optical devices move with the weaponry.

The design of the combat module and its targeting drives allows circular horizontal guidance. Vertical guidance varies from -10 ° to + 60 °. The drives are connected both with the central cannon installation, and with the machine gun mounted on the port side. Pointing it out weapons performed synchronously and at the same angles.

The main armament of the advanced combat module is an automatic 2A42 gun of the 30 caliber mm. This weapon has long been in service and has managed to establish itself as the main armament of ground combat vehicles. In addition, such a gun in the respective installations is used on some helicopters. The wide distribution and existing operating experience make 2А42 a good choice in terms of equipping promising combat modules.

The gun based on vapor-automatic equipment has a total length of about 3,03 m with an 2400-mm barrel. The full mass of the gun is 115 kg. Tape ammunition with double-sided projectile 30x165 mm is used. This allows you to make ammunition of the projectiles of two types, as well as to change the used ammunition during combat work. The 2A42 guns can fire at 800 rounds per minute. With an initial velocity of the projectile up to 960 m / s, an effective range of manpower destruction up to 4 km is ensured. Light armored vehicles can be destroyed at ranges up to 1-1,5 km.

In the design of a new combat module from the Petrel Research Institute, the use of two volumes for the storage of ammunition in the form of shells of various types is provided. The total amount of ammunition is 300 shells. A standard load is offered in the form of 200 rounds with high-explosive fragmentation projectiles and 100 armor-piercing ammunition. This acquisition of a combat module is expected to effectively deal with the whole range of possible targets, from manpower and unprotected equipment, to armored vehicles with light protection and aircraft.

On the left side of the combat module is placed the casing of additional armament in the form of an 7,62-mm PKTM machine gun. The machine gun is placed inside a metal body of complex shape, equipped with an additional protective casing of the barrel. The body of the machine-gun installation is connected with the drives of the vertical guidance of the gun, which provides simultaneous aiming. On the outer surface of the casing there is a window for resetting the sleeves. The machine gun ammunition is located inside the main body of the module, where the box for 1200 cartridges is placed. With the help of flexible sleeves, the tape is fed into the machine-gun installation and is fed to the receiving window of the weapon.

It is alleged that a promising combat module received a modern fire control system, built on the basis of digital equipment. The most prominent element of the SLA is a block of opto-electronic equipment placed above the gun casing. A television camera, a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder are placed inside the protective case. This equipment allows you to monitor the situation and search for targets, as well as measure the distance to them and perform a tip. Due to the presence of a thermal imaging channel, the use of a combat module is ensured at any time of the day without significant restrictions on meteorological conditions. The signal from the camera and thermal imager is transmitted to the module control panel and displayed on its screen.

Arms targeting drives are coupled with a two-plane stabilizer that ensures that the pickup is maintained regardless of the maneuvers of the base armored vehicle. For calculation of amendments the digital ballistic computer is used. It is proposed to monitor the operation of all the systems of the combat module using a control panel installed in the manned compartment of the armored vehicle. All control is carried out through the console. Direct interaction between the operator and the module during combat operations is not provided.

Having a sufficiently powerful weapons, promising "30-mm remotely controlled combat module" is not distinguished by large dimensions and weight. The total mass of the product, according to available data, is 1100 kg. This allows it to be mounted on different chassis, having sufficient load-carrying capacity and capable of withstanding recoil of the 30-mm automatic cannon. Such requirements are met by a large number of existing and prospective models of armored vehicles of domestic and foreign development.

The new combat module from the Petrel Research Institute is not distinguished by harsh requirements for the carrier, thanks to which it can be used as the basis of a complex of weapons of the most different vehicles. In particular, the possibility of using such systems on the latest domestic armored vehicles is not excluded. The remote-controlled module of the new model can be used to upgrade the BMD-4М airborne combat vehicle, the Boomerang armored personnel carrier or the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle. In all cases, the features of the technical appearance of a new development can yield positive results.

In theory, a promising domestic development can find wide application in the creation and updating of armored vehicles of various classes and types. Nevertheless, the real prospects of the new combat module have not yet been determined. As far as we know, to date, the specialists of the Petrel Research Institute have developed a draft of this system and produced a sample intended for demonstration at exhibitions. A few days before the beginning of the “Army-2016” forum, the developer organization announced the “30-mm remotely controlled combat module” among the planned new products, and from September 6 the product was shown to the visitors of the exhibition. In this case, any reports about the future of the new project have not yet been received.

Officially, the new combat module with the 30-mm automatic cannon was first shown on the Army-2016 forum. Nevertheless, there is reason to believe that the general public learned about it several weeks earlier. Recall that in the middle of August, a photograph appeared from the workshop of the Enterprise of Special Automobile Plant enterprise (Naberezhnye Chelny) in which two armored vehicles Typhoon Airborne Forces with non-standard equipment were captured. On the roof of one of these machines, there was a previously unknown combat module with machine guns and cannon armament.

The published photos showed that a special stand was mounted inside the cab of the base armored vehicle, supporting the combat module, and also serving as the basis for the installation of control equipment. Among other things, the control panel of the combat module got into the frame. When publishing new photos, it was stated that the combat module would be equipped with an 7,62-mm machine gun and an automatic cannon caliber 40 mm. The weapon, however, was missing on the module at the time of the shooting.

The external similarity of products that were present in the workshop of the enterprise and at the exhibition site, suggests that it is a combat module of the same model. In addition, there are obvious conclusions about the imminent (or already begun) testing of the system, together with the armored carrier. Also, the official data allowed to deal with the rumors about the 40-mm gun - in fact, the module is equipped with a weapon of a little smaller caliber.

The combat module of a new model may indeed be of interest to domestic and foreign customers, because of which it has every chance to be installed on a particular chassis and in this form find practical application by enrolling in the army of any state. However, in this context, the last word and the final decision remain with the customer in the person of the military department. The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the new combat module and its prospects. The opinion of military leaders from foreign countries also remains a secret. Thus, the future of future development remains questionable at the moment.

It should be borne in mind that such uncertainty of the real future is inherent in all new developments, and persists for some time after the first publication of data or after the “premiere show”. In the foreseeable future, new messages on prospective development should appear regarding its main features and possible contracts for production and supply. In the meantime, the “30-mm remote-controlled combat module” from the Petrel Research Institute retains the status of a recently shown development with an uncertain future.

Unfortunately, what we managed to understand from the text so extensively strewn with subtle technical details was that this module is good for installation on light armored vehicles ..... And installing ATGM would not be superfluous

since the ammunition of a 30-mm gun and a 7,62-mm machine gun is not clear, and most importantly, the crew can reload it without leaving the car.

About the ammunition it is said - for the 100 BT And 200 OT and OFZ guns, for the machine gun 1200 rounds.
Changing the type of projectile occurs by switching the supply direction with the lever on the receiver of the gun (most likely with the help of an electric drive), cocking the shutter by means of squibs (3 pcs. In a clip). As for reloading without getting out of the car - it doesn’t happen, the ammunition load is always loaded at the place of deployment by the crew, this is a rather time-consuming process.

And the coaxial machine gun also does not happen?

Thanks, really missed it. B / C is sufficient, if only misfires and distortions were less

It happens ... in an inhabited tower.
And about the misfires - 2A42 was created as an aircraft gun, with an appropriate degree of reliability of the mechanism and ammunition. The number of misfires tends to zero (with proper maintenance). BUT ... just in case there is a clip with squibs.

It was created as a cannon for the BMP-2, it does not pull on the aircraft in weight and rate of fire.

It seems that I came to the exhibition and the smiling fellow handed me a leaflet. After that, he promisingly said a couple of on-duty phrases of the type - buy ours - do not lose, and, having rejected the questions, withdrew. At exhibitions everything is very, very ....

Such a module is good for robotic combat systems of the type Platform-M or Uranus-9. Of course it would be better even in the kit with ATGMs and MANPADS.

Putting hatches on your forehead is not very smart. If there is no crew in the tower, this does not mean that there is nothing more to protect.

In the Russian Federation, there are plenty of all kinds of towers that are needed, because this TTX gun is close to modern, such as the MK30 from Puma. The Germans reduced the rate of fire from 800 in the ship version to 200 in the version for Puma, due to which they achieved high firing accuracy even on a cross-country terrain and thanks to modern ammunition as more than two greater armor-piercing with BPSs (11cm versus 5i per 1km) and the ability to distanion -programmable blasting, or work on shelter in buildings, trenches, behind ceilings infantry at distances up to 3km.

a slope of -10 degrees is small. preferably -20. mountainous terrain, cliffs, slopes abound. -30 in side view, if possible. not yet shoot up.
from the front, since nothing prevents, you can put armor with a large angle of inclination of 10-15 degrees, there is a margin for the protrusion.

For such tasks, we need a 30-40mm cannon with a short sleeve (about the same as on Apache) the HE shell there is similar, but the BB with less penetration. He is not really needed there. To hit an armored personnel carrier or infantry fighting vehicle, an HE shell will be enough ...

Not short, but telescopic. They outperform classic ammunition in all respects, with shorter and easier automation.
