What “concessions” does Washington require from Russia in Syria?
60
On the eve of the US president it was stated that without some concessions from Russia “Moscow will find it difficult to achieve peace in Syria.” Experts immediately began to wonder about what specific concessions could be discussed in the statement of Obama. Agency Rider claims that he became aware of the specific "concessions from the Russian Federation", which are expected in the United States. At the same time, the news agency refers to the letter of Michael Ratney (Washington’s special representative at the talks on Syria) to members of the so-called moderate opposition.
From the letter of Ratni:
We assume that Russia will oblige the Syrian military Aviation stop the bombing of areas controlled by opposition forces. This should also apply to areas in which opposition forces operate alongside the Jebhat Fath Al-Sham forces (this is a “rebranding” of the Jebhat al-Nusra terrorist group, which is banned in Russia - note “VO”).
One more factual demand of the USA attracts attention. The point is that Russia should influence the Syrian army in order to unblock the supply line of militants north of Aleppo. In the US, this path is called the “humanitarian corridor” through which humanitarian aid is delivered. At the same time, the American media do not cover exactly when the States carried out operations to deliver humanitarian aid to the residents of Aleppo, unless “humanitarian aid” includes containers with airplanes dropped from US aircraft. weapons and ammunition, oddly appearing in the militants.
In a letter to Mr. Ratni, it is stated that if Moscow fulfills these “conditions,” then the United States “will begin to coordinate its actions with the Russian Federation on countering Al-Qaida. Moreover, this is being exposed as a great blessing for Russia on the part of the United States ... Such statements that Russia "must fulfill the conditions" are more like blackmail than the proposal for partnership.
