In the near future, the Ukrainian armed forces can get into service a miniature armored personnel carrier. The other day, the specialists of the state concern "Ukroboronprom" presented their new developments, including weapons, which is fundamentally new for the Ukrainian army.
One of these new products is an unmanned multi-purpose tactical vehicle called the Phantom. This is a miniature armored car, which is equipped with a combat module with night and day aiming systems, making it possible to hit lightly armored vehicles and the enemy's manpower at a distance of more than one kilometer at any time of day. The power reserve of this machine reaches 20 kilometers. The Phantom is controlled via a five-kilometer fiber cable or a protected radio channel up to a kilometer away from 2,5.
Mini-armored car can be used to evacuate the wounded, transport ammunition, or perform various types of reconnaissance and combat missions. The armament of the machines is a large-caliber 12,7-mm machine gun. Armored car body. In addition, the machine is equipped with a generator and an electric motor, which allows an armored personnel carrier to work, according to the developers, for almost a month in standalone mode. The calculation of the machine is only two people: the shooter and the driver.
The presentation of the “Phantom” to the public was held on 29 of August of this year at the Kiev armored plant in the presence of the group's general director R. Romanov, defense minister S. Poltorak and the head of the National Security and Defense Council A. Turchinov. As noted by the developers themselves, this is the first test sample. But at the same time, according to R. Romanov, general director of Ukroboronprom, only a few countries are capable of producing such equipment.
“Phantom” caused rather high marks from Ukrainian experts. At the same time, they note that this development cannot be an armored personnel carrier, because a person cannot fit inside. Armored hull can withstand rifle caliber bullets, but more to perform the tasks from the machine and is not required.
However, some experts note, “Phantom” is not suitable for the evacuation of the wounded. Not in terms of capacity, but if we talk about security. From the sides, the stretchers are enclosed with frames that will not allow the wounded to fall out during the movement, but at the same time they will not be able to protect against fragments or bullets. It would be possible to make armored folding shields, which when folded would form part of the booking board, and in open form could cover the wounded or cargo.
It is possible that the sample is only the first swallow, and that with time Phantom will be finalized. But now the application is pretty good.
It should be noted that on August 29, in addition to the Phantom vehicle, Ukrainian developers also presented the first Ukrainian tactical drone Gorlitsa. It was created by the specialists of the Antonov state enterprise together with other defense enterprises of Ukraine. The drone has a practical range of about a thousand kilometers and can carry tactical weapons. In addition, a prototype of the Viy combat module installed on the Dozor-B armored personnel carrier was also presented. This module is designed to destroy lightly armored vehicles, drones, manpower of the enemy. Its rate of fire reaches 3,4 thousand rounds per minute. Provides remote control at a distance of up to 50 meters from the machine.
If we talk about the concern "Ukroboronprom", then it should be noted that it was created in 2010 for more effective work in the development, production, sale, modernization, repair and disposal of special and military equipment and ammunition. It includes about a hundred of Ukrainian defense industry enterprises.
